Mexico City: Moving Toward Clean Energy

With over 21 million inhabitants, Mexico City faces major transportation and sustainability challenges. Since 2005, the Metrobús BRT system has provided efficient mobility, serving 1.6 million passengers daily. Now, we're taking the next step with electric mobility.

Electric Metrobus Project

Electric bus technology has reached a stage of development that makes it viable for public transportation. This is the first time an articulated electric bus enters commercial operation in a BRT system in Mexico.

The bus is manufactured by Yutong, a world leader in electric buses with over 150,000 units produced globally.

New Travel Experience

Electric buses offer smooth, continuous acceleration without the "jerk" and noise typical of diesel buses.

Noise levels drop from 80 to 65 decibels — comparable to a quiet office environment. The travel experience is calmer and more comfortable.

The new electric articulated buses feature subway-style sliding doors for efficient boarding.

Key Benefits

For the City

Zero-emission corridor with cutting-edge technology

Energy Savings

80% less energy consumption, reducing 1,300 tons of CO₂

For Passengers

Silent rides, no vibrations, superior comfort

Renewable Energy

Compatible with clean energy sources

Safety Standards

Metro-style doors & regenerative braking

Continuous Service

Full-day autonomy for daily routes

Quality of Life

Reduced noise & air pollution

Charging Infrastructure

Electricity is transported through medium-voltage distribution lines. A transformer adapts the power for charging systems.

The 150 kW charger can fully recharge the bus battery in 3.5 hours. Charging occurs overnight when electricity rates are most economical.
